Contact Lens Hygiene Mistakes You Must Avoid
Jun 15, 2026 · By Store Admin
Mistake 1: Using Tap Water to Rinse Lenses
Never rinse lenses with tap water. Tap water contains microorganisms including Acanthamoeba, which can cause a serious and painful eye infection.
Mistake 2: Wearing Lenses in the Shower or Pool
Water — even clean water — contains bacteria and other pathogens that can attach to contact lenses and cause infections.
Mistake 3: Topping Off Old Solution
Always empty your lens case, rinse it, and fill with fresh solution every day. Never top off used solution with new solution.
Mistake 4: Overwearing Lenses
Wearing monthly lenses for 2-3 months significantly increases infection risk. Stick to the replacement schedule.
